Wortcunning Walks at Penbryn.
Beteen Imbolc or Gwyl Forwyn and Samhain or Nos Galan Gaeaf, I will lead a plant walk on the first and third Sunday of each month. Walks will begin at the National Trust Car Park above Penbryn Beach ( what3words bloom:table:lotteries) at 10am and return to the same place for midday. Public toilets are available there. People who want to park cars but can’t afford the NT charge should park at the St Michael’s Church car park, make a contribution to the honesty box and walk down the hill.
Each walk we will examine and consider ethnobotanical aspects of plants and fungi in the area. We will explore the folklore, magical connection and practical value (use as forage or medicine) of 3 or 4 plants in detail and explore more widely a larger range.
The terrain is irregular and the weather changeable. The walk will be of moderate length and suit reasonably fit people with appropriate footwear and clothing. Exact routes will vary according to plants, weather and tides.
The walk will be led in English and will be free in 2026. The plan will be to introduce Cymraeg and to become a bilingual event.
